Yesterday, [February 5, 2018], the Carmel Residents Association Board of Directors voted unanimously on a resolution to hold the city of Carmel-by-the-Sea accountable for the promises it has made in overseeing the beach fire pilot program on Carmel Beach. The CRA board also voted to support an immediate halt of the pilot program until all areas adopted in the Beach Fire Management Pilot document dated June 2016 are ready to be enforced.

Back in September 2017, we tabulated the results of 17 topics that were put to CRA members for a vote. Additionally, in January, we held an online, members-only straw poll of how members felt about the proliferation of wine-tasting rooms in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea, so, 18 topics of concern in all.
The appeal by the Carmel Residents Association of the planning commission’s decision to approve another wine-tasting room south of Ocean Avenue has been withdrawn. This was a difficult decision; however, following a meeting at city hall, we felt it highly unlikely that the appeal would prevail at the council level. Therefore, the expenditure of almost $1,000 in filing fees could no longer be justified.
If you weren’t able to attend the CRA’s January 25 panel discussion on water policy, or just want to double-check something, a video of this event, The Shape of Water on the Monterey Peninsula, has been posted to YouTube and is now below.
The video runs a little over an hour and has some eye-opening moments.

After nearly a year out of operation and the subject of dueling lawsuits, the long-deteriorating Carmel Resort Inn in northeast Carmel-by-the-Sea may re-open, according to City Hall officials.
On December 20, 2017, the CRA signed an agreement with Harrison Memorial Library’s Local History Room to archive ink-on-paper copies of our newsletters, going back at least to 1988. The library will also receive paper copies of every new issue of The Voice (formerly CRA News) on publication.
Our holiday party will be a scrumptious sit-down dinner at historic La Playa Hotel, southwest corner of Eighth Avenue and Camino Real, starting at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9.
Long-time CRA members will remember the splendid holiday dinners we used to have at this grand dame of Carmel hotels. Memories of Erl Lagerholm come to mind. This was his favorite CRA event and we hold this dinner in his loving memory.
Welcome, dear friends, to the Carmel Residents Association.
We of the CRA are excited to have this fresh redesign and relaunch of our website. We believe the changes we have made will make the site user-friendly for members and non-members alike.
