CRA Cloth Facemask Project

04/21/20
Working with funding from the CRA and CarmelGives.org we have started a project to create hundreds of cloth face masks for the community. Members are donating beautiful cloth fabric, elastic bands and coffee filters and we are enlisting the services of local businesses to make the masks. This is a WIN/WIN since we will be creating good business for locals and high quality masks for those who need them in the community. The masks will be free but small donations made to local charities are appreciated. We will be informing you how you can get one soon.

Look at some of the beautiful fabric provided by our members...this particular batch by Maria Finegan.

For more information about this program read the e-Blast below:

PS: We have plenty of filters...fabric and elastic is still needed.

Celebrating 33 Years of Community Service

Call to Action for our Community

First, we'd like to thank our members for their support of the Food Bank for Monterey County. So far, the CRA and 60 members have generated $6,000 to help feed those in need. We're sure some others have contributed on their own and we thank you for that. But, if you haven't, even a small donation from 100 members can help us reach our goal of $10,000! Click here to see how you can participate.

Next, the CRA has begun another community project. We will be managing the production of reusable/washable cloth face masks for our community. We have commissioned local seamstresses and other small business owners to assemble masks to be distributed in our community. Unfortunately, materials are in short supply and some retailers are not yet re-opened so we are reaching out to you today to ask if you have any materials you can donate to this cause. Your help will also keep our costs down.

Here is what we need:

  • Fabric -- cotton preferred
  • Elastic -- to secure the mask
  • Filters -- coffee filters, HEPA filters, etc. These are used in-between the fabric layers to provide additional filtration.

Individuals and businesses are being paid per piece to make the masks from components we supply. Funding is being provided by the CRA and a significant grant from CarmelGives.org. The masks will be free to the community and distributed by community organizations. More information on distribution of the masks will be coming soon.

If you can help please email [email protected] or call (831) 233-2288. Just notify us so we can pick up the materials or you can drop them off at the Byrne "Sea Mist" residence at San Antonio 2 SE 13th. Just place them by the garage door.

Other projects are in the planning stages and we'll let you know how to help!
