City Meetings Highlights.... in July

Village Fire Zone Maps and Ordinances - Final Approval June 30

Visit CRA's Emergency Preparedness webpage HERE for the update on the maps (interactive local and statewide maps) and ordinances approved on June 30th.
Council is exploring implementation considerations (including the heavily forested areas in and surrounding our Village).
Residents continue to seek specific guidance that embraces minimizing fire risks in parallel with protecting the character of our "Village in the Forest by the Sea".
All property owners have received a Defensible Space self-assessment form to complete and return to Monterey Fire.  And Monterey Fire teams are proactively inspecting all homes in the High and Very High designated areas of our Village.

Village Parking Program Options Explored - Second Update July 1

This July 1st session included a possible City-wide Valet Parking Pilot program and revisiting our implementation of the "Daylighting" Bill AB 413.  Council did not approve these items, however Council guided efforts to work on employee parking and expanded enforcement.
HERE is our webpage with background for these recent meetings including press coverage, slides, video's etc

Carmel Police & Public Works Building Project "RightSize" - Approved July 1

The smaller space (footprint) recommendatons made by the Ad Hoc Committee were approved by Council.  Next step is to prepare a Request for Proposal for a new architect who will prepare schematics with revised cost estimates
HERE is our webpage with background on this and prior project meeting videos, slides and documents.

Village Library Centennial Project - Architect Agreement Approved July 1

Following a rigorous committee selection process, Council approved the agreement with Moore Ruble Yudell (MRY) Architects.  MRY and CPLF can move ahead to plan for the updating of the internal building infrastructure, technology, usability and accessibility of this precious Community resource. Routine updates and input sessions are included in the road ahead.
HERE is our project webpage with staff reports, video, slides and documents.

Our Chief Retires - Again

Sadly - Chief Paul Tomasi has officially announced his second and final retirement, effective August 4. Chief Paul is appreciated and will be missed by us all.  As per Chip Rerig, Commander Todd Trayer will be installed as acting Chief/Director of Public Safety on August 5th. ("...long live the Chief?")
