As many have read or heard, our Village has lost a significant man-about-town.  Denny's legacy will stay with us in his properties, philanthropy, memories and much more. See the Carmel Pine Cone cover article and obituary on page 15 - HERE


City Council Oct 6th & 7th - Key Topics RESULTS

  1. Professional Services Agreement for Objective Design & Development Standards - approved by Council [more on CRA Architecture webpage]
  2. Mills Act (historic property tax benefit - currently paused for new applicants) - guidance was to explore replacing this program with alternatives at a future meeting [staff report HERE]

Closed Session Item - As requested in public comment, there was a request for insights on item B negotiations for property located at Carmel Middle School.  As in the Friday Letter - this item was regarding a possible parking lot and will be publicly addressed in an upcoming session.  [more context available HERE.

  1. Ordinance options for regulations and changes to the use of Tennis and Pickle Ball courts at Forest Hill Park - concluded with approval of emergency ordinance to end Pickle Ball at this park and a new non-emergency ordinance that could embrace a Quiet Ball alternative [staff report HERE]
  2. Consideration of resolution to authorize the implementation plan for Standard Addresses with supporting Ordinances. - concluded with 5-0 approval to move ahead based on these findings (This CRA page includes slides, videos, press coverage etc)
  3. Amended Water Allocation Policy Resolution – based on recommendations from the Planning Commission - guidance was to return with a revised approach at November meeting.

California Coastal Commission - Wants your Comments on ADU's

Calling all ADU owners, designers, builders, and interested parties in Carmel-by-the-Sea! Please help shape new state alignment and policies for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in our Coastal Zone - that includes all of Carmel-by-the-Sea.

Background - Senate Bill 1077 was passed to better align state ADU laws with the California Coastal Act. As a result, the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) and the California Coastal Commission (CCC) are creating new guidance for local governments. The goal is to clarify and simplify the permitting process for ADUs in coastal zones.
